Most of this website is a conversation we have already had
Heating, cooling and ventilation across Huntington and western Suffolk. Written as the questions customers actually ask and the answers we actually give, including the ones that lose us the job.
What we get asked, and what we say
Do you work on my system? It is oil.
Yes. Oil, natural gas, propane, electric and heat pumps — and boilers as well as warm air. On this island that is four fuels and three kinds of distribution, and a company that only works on one or two will eventually tell you your fuel is the problem.
How much is a service?
We will give you that on the phone, and it is a fixed figure. What we will not do is put it on this website, because a service on a thirty-year-old oil burner and one on a two-year-old heat pump are not the same visit and pretending otherwise gets somebody a surprise.
Somebody told me my system is shot and I need a new one.
Then it is worth a second opinion, and we will give you an honest one even when it agrees with them. What we will tell you either way is why — which component, what it measures, and what the alternative costs.
- A compromised heat exchanger genuinely ends an appliance. That one is not negotiable.
- Most other things are repairs, and a good share of them are cheap ones.
- If it is genuinely finished, you will get model numbers and a scope, not a brand name and a total.
One room has never been right. Can you fix that?
Usually, and usually without new equipment. A single room that has never worked is an airflow problem — a branch added later, a crushed run, a damper nobody knows about, or a return far too small. We measure the airflow at that register and compare it with the others, and then it is a number rather than an argument.
What about my oil tank? It is old.
That is a separate question from the appliance and a more serious one, particularly underground. There is a whole page on this site about it: what type you have, what its age means, and which parts of it are ours and which are not.
Questions we answer badly for business
Will a new system cut my bills by much?
It will cut them. By how much depends on your tariff, your building, what you are replacing and how the new one is set up afterwards — and that last one matters more than the badge. We will put a figure on it after measuring your system. Anybody giving you a percentage before that has invented it.
Can you get here today?
Sometimes. We will tell you honestly where you are in the queue and call you back either way. What we will not do is print a guaranteed number of hours on a website, because it would be broken on the first properly cold night — which is exactly when you would be relying on it.
Should I switch off oil?
That depends on your building, not on our opinion. The load, the distribution, your electrical supply, what is available at the street and what you pay for each fuel all decide it. We will measure those and lay the options out with real numbers — including the option of keeping what you have, which is on the list more often than people expect.

Common questions
Do you work on oil?
Yes, and on natural gas, propane, electric and heat pumps, and on boilers as well as warm air. On this island that is four fuels and three kinds of distribution, and a company that only works on one or two will eventually tell you your fuel is the problem.
Why are there no prices on the site?
Because a service on a thirty-year-old oil burner and one on a two-year-old heat pump are not the same visit. We will give you a fixed figure on the phone. Publishing one number for everything just gets somebody a surprise.
Somebody told me I need a new system. Is that right?
It might be. Get a second opinion and expect it to come with a reason — which component, what it measured, and what the alternative costs. A compromised heat exchanger genuinely ends an appliance; most other things are repairs, and a good share of them are cheap ones.
My oil tank is old. Should I worry?
It depends where it is. An indoor tank you can inspect; a buried one you cannot, and a buried leak is an environmental and insurance matter before it is ever a heating one. There is a page on this site about it. Tank testing and removal are specialist work and not something we do.
One room has never been right. Do I need more capacity?
Almost certainly not. A single room that has never worked is an airflow problem — a branch added later, a crushed run, a damper nobody knows about, or a return far too small. Measuring the airflow at that register settles it.
